Welcome to My Media Scholars' ePortfolio
The Media, Self, and Society Scholars' program was ultimately one of the deciding factors of my college decision process. As a journalism major, I expected this program to go hand-in-hand with my other coursework. However, I didn't expect it to open my eyes to so many other learning outcomes and insights.
I have always enjoyed telling stories. Providing others with valid information and evoking an emotional reaction out of them is what drives me. This scholars’ program has given me the resources and knowledge to help me do what I love to the fullest extent.
The Media, Self, and Society program has taught me to be a better consumer of media, which in turn, allows me to be a better distributor of media. While always remaining relevant to present-day global issues, I have been educated about the importance of fact-checking both stories, the dangers of bias and manipulation in the news, the advantages and disadvantages of data harvesting, and how many different paths can be opened through the utilization of social media.
Above all else, this program has given me the tools and skills to think and act independently. And that, to me, is more valuable than anything.
This world’s future lies in media. Just over the past decade there has been more people using media than ever before. Whether it’s streaming services, social media platforms, podcasts, YouTube, or even virtual reality, media has become the focal point of everyday life.
